Employee Stock Purchase Plan definition:  ESPP is a type of plan that allows employees (could be family members) to participate in business profits through the purchase of company stock at a discount to fair market value.  If employees sell their shares at a later date, the tax treatment differs based on when the shares were offered, purchased, and sold.
