Family Office Definition: Interest Rate Risk
Interest Rate Risk definition: Interest rate risk refers to the volatility in interest rates over a length of time. For example, an investor can purchase a ten-year bond with a fixed interest rate or hold a ladder of short-term CD’s with rates that fluctuate each time a CD matures. Bond prices move inversely of interest rates. The sensitivity of a bonds to changes in interest rates is called duration.
