Remainder Interest definition: With a QPRT, ownership interest in the property goes to the beneficiaries when the trust expires. The beneficiaries have remainder interest in the property. With a GRAT or GRUT, the remaining balance of the trust is considered the remainder interest and transferred to benenficiaries when the trust expires.
