Family Office Definition: Stock Option

Stock Option definition:  A stock option gives the holder the right to buy or sell a stock for a specified price in the future.  Stock options can be transferred to heirs or gifted at substantial discounts, especially options on privately held stocks that are difficult to value. If exercised at some point in the future, the owner can achieve significant wealth gain on assets transferred for little value.
