Venture Capital definition:  Venture capital refers to investments in start-up or newly established businesses that do not have access to traditional debt or equity markets.  Ultra high net worth investors and institutional investors may be interested in the long-term return, as well as providing some managerial expertise.  A lock-up period is generally involved with venture capital investments.
